File extension lck information

LCK file is used as a lock file to block access to a database or other types of files. This lock out feature prevents users from opening or changing a file while another user is accessing the file. In a technical sense, the file is considered open when the database or the files to be protected are not being accessed and it is considered locked when someone on the other side has the protected open and is working on it. This file is very important in preventing accidental overwriting of files.
Apart from preventing accidental erasing or alteration of a file’s contents, the LCK file is also useful in preventing data corruption. The file format is used in a number of programs which includes Microsoft FrontPage, Autodesk Inventor, Corel Paradox, ACT and Pegasus mail. Dreamweaver, a web designing application, also uses the LCK file extension. The file is used to prevent multiple users from being able to access a single file while they are logged in as FTP users. Thus, users cannot download a file in this mode when another user logged in is accessing or downloading the file.
